Reel’em In with Linkbait: Resources & Tips for Making Your Content Valuable

There are many ways of extending the value of your web content beyond the educational or entertainment value it already has. Great content acts as bait that attracts the masses and drives relevant traffic to your site and ultimately to your organization.

In Jim Westergren’s blog post on Link-Bait, he lists out several great tips for making your content worthy of conversation and just maybe a link to your site. I have listed a few of my favorites below:

  • Make a valuable resource (lists, special reports, history of, how to, etc.)
  • Test something new that has not been done before
  • Write something controversial
  • Be the first to write the latest news in your niche
  • Disagree with an authority
  • Be the first to research and document something
  • Make a joke about a known person
  • Make a resource that is just in time for a major event
  • Write an outrageous theory and back it up with logic
  • Give something valuable for free
  • Coin a new acronym in your niche and get people to talk about it
