Webinar Takeaways: MarketingSherpa’s Top 5 SEO Practices for 2011
I attended a Hubspot-sponsored webinar today entitled MarketingSherpa’s Top 5 SEO Practices for 2011. It had some good content about search engine marketing that stemmed from MarketingSherpa’s newly released 2011 Search Marketing Benchmark Report – SEO Edition. Here’s a recap of my top takeaways from four big emerging trends that were discussed in detail by one of the presenters, Jen Doyle.
Trend: Mobile search
- Takeaway #1: the study showed 56% of respondents indicating that they had not yet received any impact from mobile search, but 71% are expecting to receive an impact in the future.
- Takeaway #2: more mobile apps are accepting text-based queries (e.g. Shazam, SnapTell).
- Takeaway #3: one big impact of mobile will be the ability for local businesses to gain more visibility with new customers.
Trend: Real time search
- Takeaway #1: content marketers will be rewarded. Real time search means that social media content will enjoy more real estate on search engine result pages (SERPs).
- Takeaway #2: your evangelists can now do more to help you to optimize for real time search.
Trend: Personalized search
- Takeaway #1: the data is based on the users last 180 days of searching habits.
- Takeaway #2: it is now in effect for all Google users, whether or not they are logged in.
- Takeaway #3: rank checking is now an even less reliable measure of results due to this change.
Trend: Video search
- Takeaway #1: video is still a marketing tactic that is not used by many – 52% indicate that they have not received any impact from video.
- Takeaway #2: video is in fact shown on SERPs, but it is unclear whether marketers will embrace it as a priority in their search marketing initiatives.
Thanks to MarketingSherpa and Hubspot for a great webinar – special thanks to the presenters Sergio Balegno and Jen Doyle! You can read what others had to say about the webinar at #SherpaSEARCH. What other trends are important to understand with search marketing today?
